Kasauli is the small hill station in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the town which caught attention of Britishers because of its beauty and scenic views. The Christ Church is biggest attraction of Kasauli which is located near the bus stand. This is main location of the town and church can easily seen from below.

History of Christ Church:
The Christ church was said to be established on 25th July 1853 by making it the oldest church in whole state of Himachal Pradesh. It was established by Chaplain Thomas John Edward Steel who was a graduate from Cambridge. The Christ Church was founded more or less as a homely church to help in religious proceedings of the very few families residing in the newly founded Kasauli town at that time. Due of its structure, this church has gained a huge popularity among not only the Christian community but also the other tourists who have a rich taste in architecture.
It was only as the Anglican Church till 1970 and after being adopted by the authority of the Churches of North India (CNI), its name was changed to the Christ Church. The Christ Church is dedicated to St Francis and St Barnabas.

Architecture style & Planning:
This building stand out as creation drawing visitor’s attention with its appearance. The Christ church is made in Gothic style of architecture. The huge pointed Arches, Buttresses, Spires (Pointed cone) and Cross at top of the roof are major elements of church building.
There is a clock tower which consists of motifs and small arches. The church has a cruciform floor plan (cross shape).
Interiors of the church:
There is series of finely-chiseled stone columns with arches which support the structure. The big arch in the front consists stained and painted glass windows create a wondrous illusion as one enters the Christ church. It is said that all the stained glasses were specially imported from England.
Beautiful stained glass windows and an aisle which will lead to the beautiful altar sculpture consists Jesus Christ is bound by Joseph and Mary. There are stained glasses over the altar image of Jesus Christ which depicts the Crucifixion where the image of Christ is flanked by those of Joseph and Mary. Also the lighted chandeliers just brightens up the interiors and take it to the another level. White and brown colors are dominating in the interior space of the building.
Material of the Church:
The structure is made up of dressed sand stone with green colored pained slanting roof. The materials used in the interiors are stone, wood and painted glass. The interior of the roof is covered with timber which has been painted in chocolate brown color.
Interesting Facts about Christ Church:
Sun Dial:
One of the interesting part of the building is Sun Dial in front. It shows the latitude and longitude fixed on the stone structure and used for measuring time in those days. The sundial still shows the time accurately as one stands in front of it and sees the shadow of the sundial falling into the angles of the watch.
Antique Clock:
An eye catching antique clock is mounted on top of the church’s tower. Unfortunately the clock stopped working sometime back. But it was successfully repaired back in year 2015 and now it is working really well and accurately.
Graveyard:
Most thrilling part of the church is its exteriors which are surrounded by a cemetery with graves dating back to 1850s and earlier. Since it’s a contamination area, tourists are not allowed to make any noise or speak loudly here.
Conclusion:
That was all about Charismatic Christ church of England in Kasauli, India. It did went few restoration work with time but building still standing strong after being 168 year old. Under water rain harvesting tanks exits in the church complex which is used for landscaping purpose. No doubt this place is the major tourist attraction due to its attractive architecture. Lots of music videos has been shot here and also often used for pre-wedding and other shoots.
